respiration and excersize Flashcards
whats respiration
the process of releasing energy from glucose which goes on in every cell
which releases the most energy?(an/aerobic?)
aerobic
where do the reactions for respiration take place in the cell
mitochondria
word equation for respiration
glucose+oxygen->
carbon dioxide+water+energy
what does respiration release energy for(4)
- build larger molecues from smaller
- allow muscles to contract
- used to maintain body temp
- in plants:build sugars into amino acids which are built up into proteins
what is the physical effect of excersize?(2)
increase in heart rate and speed of heart pump
why does these physical effects happen when you exercise?
an increase of muscle activity requires more glucose and oxygen to be supplied to the muscle cells. Extra carbon dioxide needs to be removed.
how is glycogen used during exercise?
converted back to glucose to provide energy
where is glycogen stored?(2)
its stored in the liver but each muscle has some
anaerobic respiration equation
glucose->energy+lactic acid
why isnt it the best way to glucose into energy?
build up of lactic acid which causes muscle fatigue
what does anaerobic lead to?
oxygen debt
whats oxygen debt
having to repay the oxygen that you didnt get to your muscles in time
what does oxygen debt make you do
breathe hard for a while to get more oxygen to you your blood to remove the lactic acid
