Respiration And Breathing Flashcards
Aerobic
Needs oxygen to release energy from food.
Anaerobic Respiration
Does not use oxygen to release energy from food
Oxygen is carried carried by the
Haemoglobin on red blood cells to all other cells of the body.
Aerobic Respiration takes place in
All the living cells in the human body as well as in most animal and plant cells
Example of anaerobic respiration
Yeast converts sugars to alcohol in Fermentation- this produces alcohol for drinks such as beers and wine!
Respiration
The process that release energy from food
Nose
Breathe in, air is warmed, hair and mucous trap germs and dirt
Trachea
Carries air to the lungs, held open by rings of cartilage
Alveoli
Gas exchange takes place here- carbon dioxide out and oxygen in
Bronchus
One goes from the trachea to each of the lungs
Bronchioles
Smallest air tubes that go from the bronchus to the alveoli
Diaphragm
A muscle that flattens to start a breath in
Test for carbon dioxide
Limewater turns milky
Test for water
blue cobalt chloride paper turns pink
Test to show we produce water vapour during respiration
breathe on a mirror, you see water vapour
