Circulation Flashcards
Red blood cells
Haemoglobin to carry oxygen, no nucleus, disc-shaped, made in bone marrow
White blood cells
Fight infection, produce antibodies, no definite shape, less white blood cells then red
Platelets
Blood clotting, no nucleus, fragments of cells, less platelets than red blood cells but more than white
Plasma
90% water, carries platelets and red white blood cells,Carries dissolved substances(10%)e.g. Glucose proteins, urea.
Functions of blood
Transport, defence against disease, clotting
Transport in blood
Oxygen,carbon dioxide, glucose
3 types of blood vessels
Arteries, veins, capillaries
Arteries
Carry blood away from the heart
Veins
Carry blood back to the heart
Capillaries
Connect arteries and veins
Cardiac muscle
It doesn’t fatigue or tire
Four chambers in the heart
Right and left atria and the right and left ventricles
Left ventricle has a thicker wall because
It has to pump more blood around the body.
Normal body temperature
37 degrees
Resting pulse rate
70 beats per minute
