Respiration: Anaerobic Flashcards
1
Q
AR: Step 1
A
Glycolysis
2
Q
AR: Step 2
A
- Pyruvate gains a hydrogen
-reduced by NADH -> NAD - NAD can be reused in glycolysis to ensure ATP production
- Produces lactate
3
Q
Impermanence
A
- Lactate is an acid so will begin to denature enzymes so reactions cannot continue to occur
- smaller amounts of ATP made
- Ethanol toxic so would denature enzymes
4
Q
Plants and Microobes
A
- produces Ethanol and CO2 not lactate due to different enzymes
5
Q
Aerobic respiration efficiency
A
- Should produce 28 ATP/ glucose
- 32% efficiency e.g. heat loss, active transport
6
Q
Anaerobic respiration efficiency
A
- doesn’t fully break down glucose
- 2ATP/ glucose
