Photosynthesis: Calvin Cycle/LIR Flashcards
1
Q
Location
A
Stroma of the chlorophyll
2
Q
Step 1 - Carbon fixation
A
- CO2 diffuse in through stomata
- CO2 reacts with RuBP producing an unstable 6C compound which splits into 2 forming 3C GP molecules
3
Q
Step 2 - reduction of GP
A
- energy from ATP and NADPH produced during the LDR are used to reduce GP to 2 molecules of a phosphorylated 3C sugar TP
- 1/6 of TP molecules are used to produce organic molecules e.g. condense to become hexose to produce starch/cellulose
- 6 ATP becomes 6ADP, 6 NADPH becomes 6 NADP+
4
Q
Regeneration of RuBP
A
5/6 of TP molecules are used to regenerate RuBP this requires ATP
- 3 ATP converted to 3 ADP
5
Q
Intermediates
A
TP: triose phosphate - produces other molecules
GP: glycerate-3-phosphate - produces some amino acids
