Respiration Flashcards

Q
Stages in respiration:
A
- glycolysis: glucose is oxidised to pyruvate in the cytoplasm. Small amount of ATP is produced.
- during the link reaction pyruvate is converted into acetyl coenzyme A. This reaction connects glycolysis in the cytoplasm and the krebs cycle in the mitochondria.
- The krebs cycle is a series of oxidation reduction reactions that generate NADH and a small amount of ATP
- during oxidative phosphorylation, reduced coenzyme such as NADH, are used to regenerate lots of ATP through the electron transport chain. Oxygen is converted into water.
