Respiration Flashcards
1
Q
The process of respiration
A
Produces energy for growth and production by oxidising carbohydrate molecules produced in photosynthesis into CO₂ and H₂O and energy (ATP) for the energy needs of plant cells and processes.
2
Q
Equation of respiration
A
6O₂+C₆H₁₂O₆ ——–› 6CO₂+6H₂O+energy
3
Q
What are the 3 phases of respiration
A
- Glycolysis (occurs in cytoplasm)
- Kreb cycle ( occurs in the matrix of the mitochondria)
- Electron transport system (carried out by the enzyme on the cristae of the mitochondria)
4
Q
Where it occurs
A
Stems
Roots
Leaves- stomata is responsible for the exchange of gases.
5
Q
By products
A
Carbon dioxide and water
