Growth Stages And Nutrients Required Flashcards
Germination
Zaddock stage - 0-9
None as all energy is supplied by the seed
Plant also has immature roots so can’t access soil nutrients
Seeding Growth
Zaddock Stage - 10-19
Z10- 1st cotyledon becomes apparent
Z19- is leafy stage before first tiller emerges
Major requirement for N
P, S needed in smaller amounts
Also require small amounts of moly, zinc, manganese
Tillering
Zaddock stage - 20-29
All crops require large amounts of NKS
P demand is lower but still needed for photosynthesis
90% of yield potential is determined at this stage
Tissue test
Stem Elongation
Zaddock stage: 30-39
Massive demand for N, K, S
Micro nutrients required for the next stage are applied
Booting
Zaddock stage: 40-49
Flag leaf is being pushed up inside stem of plant
Require large amounts of P, K, S, CU, MO
Grain quality is determined
Ear Emergence
50-59
Grain head pushing through top of sheath
Requirement of N, P, K
Flowering
Zaddock stage: 61-69
High requirement of N, P, Mg, Boron
Milk Development
Zaddock stage:70-79
Heads have fully developed and now grain fills occurs
Plant still drawing on micro nutrients such as Mg, Mo, Zn, Cu
Dough
Zaddock stage: 80-89
Nutrient demand is starting to decrease as plant is almost mature
Demand continues primarily for P and N
Ripening
Zaddock stage: 90-99
Still some demand for n and P but the demand for nutrients is decreasing
