Respiration Flashcards
Describe the components and functions of the ETS
It is composed of a substrate dehydrogenase, which receives a pair of electrons from an organic or inorganic substance. It donates the electrons to a mobile electron carrier, such as quinone.
A terminal oxidase complex receive the elctrons from quinol, while the H is transclocated outside and this process is also couple to the pumping of two H outside
Dissimilitatory vs Assimilatory
Dissimilatory denitrification reduces the oxidized form of nitrogen and excruded from the cell.
Assimilatory reduction increases the biomass of an organism
Phototrophy
The use of photoexcised electrons to power cell growth
Bacteriohodopsins
A membrane-embedded protein that has a light-driven H pump. Will cover entire membrane with this complex, referred to purple mebrane
What is the makeup of a photosynthestic organism in terms of its ETC
