Respiration Flashcards
What digested food is needed for
Glucose needed to make energy through respiration
Know how energy is released in the body
Respiration:glucose +Oxygen->carbon dioxide +water(energy)
What substance is used as the main energy resources in the body
Glucose -digested carbohydrates
Similarities burning and respiration
- Both react with oxygen
- both release some energy as heat
- both produce carbon dioxide and water
Differences between burning and respiration
- burning uses fuel
- burning is quicker than respiration
- burning does not happen in the body
How oxygen gets into blood and how it is transported around body
Oxygen gets Into the blood via the alveoli the oxygen from the air is exchanged with carbon dioxide from the blood
Oxygen is transported around the body in the red blood cells
What system the heart and blood vessels belong to
Circulatory system
Know what the differenct blood vessels in the body are
Arteries-carry blood away from the heart
Veins-carry blood to the heart
Capillaries-tiny blood vessels that supply your organs and cells with oxygen and take away carbon dioxide
Exercise affects pulse rate and breathing rate
More exercise =increased breathing and pulse rate
Breathing rate is how many breaths you do in a minute
Pulse=indication of heart rate
How does the body get rid of carbon dioxide
Exhalation breathing out
What happens in aerobic respiration
Aerobic respiration uses oxygen and it makes more energy
Oxygen +glucose->carbon dioxide +water(+energy)
Anerobic doesn’t use oxygen just glucose and makes lactic acid
Glucose->lactic acid +energy
How oxygen and digested food get from the blood to the cells that need them
Glucose gets into blood the blood through the small intestine absorbed into villi
Know what happenes when you breathe inhalation
Inhalation:ribs move up and out diaphragm moves down (contracts) air moves into lungs and causes them to inflate
What happens when you breathe exhalation
Ribs move in and down diaphragm moves up (relaxes) air goes out of the lungs causing them to desínflate
How lungs are adapted to their job
They have millions of alveoli sacs that increase the surface ares
