starts with coryza and fever

then
hoarseness - vocal cord inflammation
barking cough (tracheal oedema
harsh stridor
recession etc

VIRAL
1 - parainfluenza

also rhinovirus, RSV, influenza

A

6months - 6 years

peak at 2 years old (autumn)

what features indicate that croup is moderate/severe and hospital is needed?

A

stridor and recession.

if agitated/lethargy - severe

mild may only have barking cough

A

dexamethasone PO
or prednisolone PO
or budesonide (neb)

every 12 hours if necessary

A

adrenaline + O2 nebulised

this can wear off so observe for 2-3 hours

intubate if this does sort it
