Resource Management Flashcards
1
Q
What types of constraints could exist in resource allocation?
A
- Cash Flow
- Rsource volume
- Staff availability
- Contractor availability
- Shared facilities
- Policy
2
Q
Resource Management Techniques
A
- Resource estimating
- Resource allocation
- Resource smoothing
- Resource Levelling
3
Q
What is the process of resource allocation?
A
- Draw network
- Create bar chart
- Add resource load
- Calculate totals and prepare initial resource load histogram
- Check against capacity
- Optimise allocation of resource
- Perform resource smoothing or levelling
- Draw final resource histogram
- Cumulate data and draw “S-curve”
4
Q
Optimise Resource Allocation
A
- Need to adjust schedule to meet resource constraints
- May wish to eliminate peaks and troughs
- Is tasks are moved, then this is reflected in the resource loading
5
Q
Resource Optimisation methods
A
2 methods depending on whether the priority is time or resource:
- fixed time limit: resource smoothing. Time limited scheduling
- fixed resources: resources levelling. Resource limited scheduling
6
Q
Adjust to meet Constraints
A
- Any task with float may be delayed: protects the critical path
- Free float: best to adjust these, as all other tasks unaffected
- Total float: other tasks may have to move as well
