Resorption Flashcards
Name the different types of resorption (6)
Internal inflammatory
Internal replacement
External surface
External replacement
External inflammatory
External cervical
What is the only resorption that is usually restored
External inflammatory
Cause of internal inflammatory resorption
Giant cells nibble bone
Coronal aspect = necrotic
Apical aspect = vital
Lesion continues until pulp necrotic + resorption stops
Tx for internal inflammatory resorption
Endo tx (risk of haemorrhage use caOH)
Description of internal inflammatory resorption
Balloon in middle
Description of internal replacement resorption
Big radiopaque pulp + RCs (mix of dentine, cementum, bone)
Tx for internal replacement resorption
Accept + monitor and will need XLa
Risk of RCT outweighs benefit
Description of external surface resorption
Short roots (no PAP)
Mobile teeth
Localised injury to cementum
Tx for external surface resorption
No endo as pulp healthy
Remove source - path lesion/ectopic tooth
Description of external replacement resorption
Root disappearing
Causes of external replacement resorption
Trauma (osteoclasts in contact with external root dentine)
Avulsion
Lateral lux
Tx for external replacement resorption
Monitor - if stopped growing and comp
Endo tx will not stop resorption
If growing pt decoronate and replace with denture/RRB
Description of external inflammatory resorption
Heavily restored tooth + necrotic
PAP
Causes of external inflammatory resorption
Necrotic pulp
Tx of external inflammatory resorption
Endo tx
Perhaps surgical endo or XLa
