Sebaceous glands - produces sebum to lubricate and waterproof the skin
Eccrine glands - produce sweat to assist in Thermoregulation
Apocrine gland - produces sweat when you are under emotional stress. It is odourless before mixing with bacteria on the skin. May contain sexual characteristics
In what stage of the hair growth is a waxing treatment most effective? Briefly explain why?
Anagen. Hair is attached to the follicle. Potentially destroys the hair cells in the dermal papilla.
Name and briefly explain the 2 main functions of the skin.
Homeostasis - the ability of the human body to maintain a constant in an ever changing environment
Thermoregulation - the process the body goes through to maintain a constant temperature
What is the role of the hair? Briefly explain.
To protect the scalp from burning, to hold in body heat, to protect the eyes, nostrils and ears from foreign matters such as dust, grit and even insects.

2 types of melanization that occurs and explain the processes
Temp tanning - short exposure to the sun causing the skin to darken immediately but fade within a few hours or days
Long lasting tanning - occurs 3-4 days after sun exposure. It can last from several weeks to months and is maintained from repeated exposure to the sun.
