What is resistance to social influence?
How people disobey and refuse to conform
What are the two parts to it?
Social support and locus of control
What is the social support?
Conformity- reduced by dissenters
Obedience - decreases with disobedient peer as acts as model

Research support- conformity decreases even if one person dissents
Research support- obedience drops when disobedient role model present
What is the locus of control?
Sense of what directs events in our life (Rotter)

People with high internal LOC more likely to resist pressures to conform

Research support- internals less likely to obey in Milgram’s study
Contradictory research- people become more external and disobedient
