Q

Describe 3 characteristics of the DeLorme Technique

A
  1. Determine RM (Repetition Max.) at 10 reps.
  2. 10 Reps at 50%, 10 at 75%, 10 at full RM.
  3. Brief rest BTW 3 set.

Q

Describe the Oxford Technique

A

Reverse of DeLorme: 10 at full RM, 10 at 75%, 10 at 50%.

Q
  1. Describe Isokinetic Ex.’s

2. Provide an Example

A
  1. Form of dynamic ex. in which the velocity of muscle shortening or lengthening is controlled by a rate limiting device that controls the speed of mvt.
  2. Cybrex Machine

Q
  1. Describe Isometric Ex’s.

2. Provide an Example

A
  1. Static form of ex. that occurs when a muscle contracts without an appreciable change in the length of the muscle.
    * MUST be done at multiple angles.
  2. Pushing into the wall with a fist below 90 degrees of flexion for 6 second.

Q

2 Therapeutic Methods Used to Elongate Soft Tissue

A
  1. Manual: passive stretching applies by the therapist x15-30 seconds, then followed by AROM.
2, Mechanical: Low internsity external force is applied to shorten tissues over a prolonged period of time: Dynamic splints, serial casts, contract & relax, self stretching.

Q

What are the changes to the muscular, cardiovascular, and pulmonary systems that occur when doing cardiovascular fitness?
(3 descriptive points)
(Potential essay question)

A
  1. Immediate Changes: increased blood flow to muscles, heart rate increases, arterial pressure, O2 demand and consumption and rate and depth of respiration increases.
  2. Adaptive Changes: Long Term: Density of capillary bed increases which increases the O2 available and increased efficiency of the heart.
  3. As endurance increases the resting heart rate decreases as well as return to normal time shortness.
