Q
How do bacteria develop antibiotic resistance?
A
- A mutation occurs in some bacteria giving them resistance to the antibiotic
- bacteria that are not resistant die and resistant survive
- Surviving bacteria reproduce passing on resistant gene
- Eventually the whole population is resistant

Q
What are the causes of antibiotic resistance?
A
- Overuse of antibiotics
- Not finishing a course of antibiotics
- Taking antibiotics when you don’t need them
- Excessive agriculture use of antibiotics

Q
How is the development of antibiotic going?
A
- costly and slow
- unlikely to keep up with the emergence of new strains
