Q

Social support evaluation: individuals still obey and conform

A

10% of participants in Milgrams variation and 5.5% of the critical trials in Asch’s variation.
Social support isn’t a complete explanation for resistance and there are other important factors such as locus of control

What do people with an external locus of control tend to attribute outcomes to?

A

Outside forces rather than their own actions

22
Q

Individuals with an internal locus of control because of their sense of independence, self-confidence and personal responsibility for their actions

25
Q

Evaluation point: locus of control

A

Holland repeated milgrams study and participants were assessed for their internal and external locus of control. 37% internal refused to go to the highest voltage compared to 23% external. Suggests high internal locus of control are more able to resist pressures to obey

26
Q

Locus of control Evaluation point: incomplete explanation

A

Spector - 157 participants completed a questionnaire measuring their locus of control and tendency to conform to nsi and isi. Correlation with internal LOC and participants being more able to resist nsi however just as likely to conform to ISI so externals and internals look to others for correct info and so locus of control isn’t a complete explanation

27
Q

Evaluation point locus of control: relationship between LOC and resistance to social influence is only correlational

A

Other factors have been suggested as being involved in resistance to social influence e.g. level of social anxiety
