Resistance To Social Influence Flashcards
Locus of control
How much a person believes they have control over their own behaviour.
Internal locus of control
Less likely to conform and obey than those with an external locus of control
Internal control
Internal control refers to those people that have a great deal of control over their own behaviour, takes responsibility and less concerned with social approval
External control
Refers to those who believe their actions are controlled by forces such as luck or fate.
How is locus of control measured.
Using a questionnaire.
Internal control at one end and external control at the other end
Social support.
Another explanation for resistance
Defiance or non conformity is more likely if others are seen to resist influence. Seeing others not conform gives the observer confidence to do so.
