Resistance Flashcards
1
Q
What is a ‘Light Dependent Resistor’?
A
- A special type of resistor that changes its resistance depending on how much light there is
2
Q
What is seen with a light dependent resistor?
A
- Bright light resistance falls
- Darkness resistance is highest
3
Q
What is seen with a thermistor?
A
- In hot conditions, the resistance drops
- Cool conditions, the resistance increases
4
Q
What does a thermistor depend on?
A
- The resistance depends on temperature
5
Q
Describe what happens when there is an electrical current in a resistor
A
- There is an energy transfer which heats the resistor
6
Q
Why is there an energy transfer when there is an electrical current in a resistor?
A
- Because of electrons colliding with ions with the lattice that makes up the resistor as they move through it
7
Q
What do the collisions do?
A
- They give the ions in the lattice extra energy which is then emitted as heat
8
Q
Describe what the heat effect does
A
- It increases the resistors resistance, which means less current will flow
