Longitudinal Studies
Study that is conducted on the same people at different times (change over time)
ex IQ tests administered to a group of people at age 5, 10, 20
Cross sectional studies
Study that is conducted on different people at a single point in time
ex survey on attitudes towards legalization of marijuana given to ppl of varying ages
Hypotheses
a testable prediction
Null hypotheses
disconfirming hypothesis
opposite
hindsight bias
tendency to believe, after seeing an outcome, that you could have predicted it
Overconfidence error
Certainty that we are correct in our beliefs and assumptions
Theory
Set of principles built on observations and other verifiable facts that explains some phenomenon
Placebo Effect
a beneficial effect, produced by a placebo drug or treatment, that cannot be attributed to the properties of the placebo itself, and must therefore be due to the patient’s belief in that treatment.
