Research Methods Yr2 Flashcards
Explain what is a null hypothesis
It predicts that there will be no effect between the two variables
Explain the difference between a type 1 error and type 2 error
Type 1: person does not have a disease but test says they do ( false positive)
Type 2: person has the disease but test does not pick it up (false negative)
What does it mean to have a 0.05/5%
Significance level?
As long as research is sure that there is no life or death situation (in drug trial) - there is a 5% possibility thats he results r due to chance
What does it mean to have 0.1/1% significance level?
And whcih type of error would this likely to occur in?
More likely to be in type 1 error
Where there is a 1% possibility results due to chance-
so that the researcher is to be certain that effect of dv is die to manipulation of iv
More likely to occur in type 2 error
Define probability?
Measure of likelihood of a particular event happening
