Research methods Flashcards
What is face validity
Whether a measure looks like it is measuring what it is meant to measure
What is concurrent validity
Whether the currier measure is accurate when compared to previous measure
What are demand characteristics
Cues that can reveal the aim to participants
What are the stages of content analysis
- Sampling the data - e.g. the first page of every book
- Coding the data - behaviour categories
- Representing the data - counting instances in each category
Strength of content analysis
Easy to perform
Inexpensive
Can be replicated
Ecologically valid
Weaknesses of content analysis
Culture bias
Researcher bias
Time consuming
What is thematic analysis
Used when analysing qualitative data in order to identify themes
What is nominal data
Data is in categories
What is ordinal data
Data has been ordered or ranked
What is interval data
Data measured on scales with equal intervals
