Research Methods Flashcards
What is a point quadrat?
Has ten points, each point making out 10% coverage.
A pin is stuck through each hole, the different plants that the pin hits are counted and identified.
Used for knee high vegetation.
What is an open frame quadrat?
Used on large areas, has less accurate/specific measure of plants as it has no grids.
What is a grid quadrat?
Used on small vegetation, good estimation of coverage.
Name the positives and negatives of a heterdyne.
They are the cheapest of bat detectors
Only detects limited frequencies at a time so some species could be missed
What are sonograms?
Records of the sounds made by taxa such as dolphins bats and some insects. Are used to explore their populations/activity.
