Research Involving Time-Spans Flashcards
compares samples that represent a cross-section of people who vary in age. (comparing the differences between people in different age groups)
respondents are only measured once (not expensive nor time consuming.)
Cross-sectional Research
Being born in different time-periods has varying impacts on individuals.
Cohort Effect
studying group of people who are the same age and measuring them again over a period of time.
this allows study differences in individual development. this can be done in a span of months or years.
disadv: very time consuming and expensive
Longitudinal Research
when participants fail to complete all portions of a study
Attrition (Longitudinal Research)
happens when participants become better at a task over time because they have done it again and again (not because of natural psychological dev)
Practice Effect (Longitudinal)
includes both longitudinal and cross-sectional research designs.
Sequential Research
