Conception occurs and development begins. Time when baby is being formed inside the mother.
Prenatal Development
The first 2 years of life are ones of dramatic growth and change.
Newborn now learns how to walk and talk.
Caregivers also play an important role.
Infancy and Toddlerhood
Preschool years (2 - 6). After toddlerhood to formal schooling. Child is learning language, gaining a sense of self and independence, and is beginning to learn the workings of the physical world.
Early Childhood
6 to Pre-puberty. Children will be connected to school. Now the world becomes an area of learning and testing new academic skills thru one’s abilities and accomplishments.
Middle and Late Childhood
Marked by an overall growth spurt and sexual maturation known as puberty. Also, the time of cognitive changes (basically opens up to the concept of love, fear, and freedom). People this age are more prone to accidents and sexually transmitted infections because they think they have invincibility.
Adolescence
Transitional time between the end of adolescence and before one enters the time of adulthood. Continued identity exploration and preparation for full independence. At most risk for doing violent crimes and substance abuse.
Emerging Adulthood
30s and 40s. Intimate relationships, establishing families, and work are primary concerns.
Established Adulthood
Mid 40s - Mid 60s. Aging becomes more noticeable and most are at their peak of productivity in love and work
Middle Adulthood
Divided into two: Young-old (65-84) and Oldest-old (85 years & older). Former is relatively healthy, productive, active, and live independently. Both groups are at risk of diseases like cancer.
