Research Flashcards
Describe the result section of the research report
states specific lab, clinical, objective, or subjective findings
Describe the discussion section of the research report
Shows the interpretation of results, comparison between other studies, may be combined with results
Describe the implications section of the research report
How the information might be applied in practice
Which group receives the program or treatment in research?
The experimental group; the control group may receive a placebo
What is a time series?
A series of measurements at periodic intervals before the program begins and after the program ends that shows whether measurements before and after the program are a continuation of previous patterns or whether they are a noteworthy change
What is a cross-sectional study?
A one time data collection including a snap shot look of current events
Define internal validity
tests whether the difference between the two groups is real
Define external validity
tests whether or not a generalization can be made from the study to a larger population
Define analysis of variance
a tool used to evaluate validity, asks whether the difference between samples is a reliable one that would be repeated
Define arithmetic mean
simple average
Define median
midpoint in a series of data that is put in order
Define mode
the most frequently occurring value
How much of the data falls within 1 standard deviation of the mean?
2/3 or 68%
In a linear relationship, what shows a strong relationship?
Points that are close to the line
What is the p value that would signify reliable results? not reliable results?
.05 - not reliable
