Resampling One Flashcards
what is a resampling approach
a newer method of statistical analysis
measures sampling error by repeating the sampling process a large number of times - assessing the variability in the resamples
why would we use a resampling approach
fewer assumptions
more accurate in cases that dont fit the assumptions of typical statistics
very general - ideas can be modified to different situations
no equatins or tables
we have to think about our data
why arent resampling approaches more popular
theyre new - about 30 years old
parametric stats are how people have been trained and theres lots of rescources on it
requires some programming
cant be done in SPSS
how do we do a between subject resample
- data is randomly reassigned between two groups and the difference between the resampled means is recorded on a graph
then we check how extreme the real value is on this graph
work out how many means were more extremee than this and convert this percentage to a decimal - 1/10 more extreme, so 10% so p=0.1 so not statisically significant
