Describe a method to investigate the link between force and extension

Answer 1

1. Set up as shown and measure length of spring with a range of masses e.g. 0, 4, 6, 8 N. (Measuring the natural length of spring before hand).
2. For each weight record the length of the spring.
3. Calculate the extension of a given weight by subtracting its length from the starting length of the spring.
4. Repeat.
5. Inaccuracy comes from parallax errors, not fixing the ruler, not allowing spring to stop oscillating. Not taking readings from eye level.
