Required Practicals Flashcards
1
Q
Density practical (regularly shaped object) equipment
A
- 30cm ruler in mm
- Digital balance
- A selection of regularly shaped object
2
Q
Method of density practical (regularly shaped object)
A
- Measure the length, width and height of he object using the ruler
- Calculate the volume of the object using - volume = length x width x height
- Measure the mass of the object using the balance
- Calculate the density using - density = mass/volume
- Repeat for the other regular objects
3
Q
Density practical (irregularly shaped object) equipment
A
- Digital balance
- Eureka can
- Measuring cylinder
- Beaker of water and an extra empty beaker
- Selection of irregularly shaped objects
4
Q
Method of density practical (irregularly shaped objects)
A
- Fill eureka with water and allow excess water to drain.
- Place empty measuring cylinder under sprout of can
- Submerge object in can and collect displaced water
- Record the volume of the displace water which is the volume of the object
- Measure the mass of the object using the balance
- Calculate the density using - density = mass/volume
- Repeat for he irregular objects
5
Q
Thermal insulation practical equipment
A
- Boling tubes and rack
- Thermometer
- Stopwatch
- Kettle
- Thermometers in bungs
- Sheets of insulating material
6
Q
Thermal insulation of different materials of insulator method
A
- Cover boiling tubes in different insulations.
- Add boiling water to tubes
- Place thermometers in water
- Make sure top is sealed to prevent evaporation
- Wait for the highest temperature reached
- Record temperature as it falls at regular intervals
- Repeat with different insulating materials
- Plot graph of temperature against time
7
Q
Thermal insulator of different thicknesses method
A
- Wrap five beakers in varying thicknesses of one material
- Fill each beaker with warm water, record the initial temperature and cover each beaker with paper lids.
- Repeat the experiments as before, measuring the temperature every 3 minutes
- Record your results and calculate the change in temperature for each beaker (initial temperature - final temperature).
8
Q
Thermal insulator of different thicknesses experiment equipment
A
- Five beakers
- An insulating mateial
- Kettle with water
- Thermometer
