Q

how do you determine the density of a regular object

A
  1. use a balance to determine the mass of the object
  2. use a ruler to work out the volume by measuring the length of the side
  3. uses this figure and put into the equation for volume
  4. use both mass and volume to find out density

Q

explain the density of an irregular object

A
  1. measure the mass of the object using a balance
  2. fill a eureka can with water making sure it is filled all the way to the bottom of the opening of the spout
  3. place a cylinder below the spout
  4. attach a piece of string to the object and slowly lower it into the can ensure to only do this until the object is fully submerged
  5. any water that is displaced will flow into the spout and into the cylinder
  6. measure the volume of water displaced this is the volume of the object
  7. now add both figures into the equation mass/volume ensuring you convert to kg and M
