required practical 7: measuring rate of reaction (initial rate method and continuous monitoring) Flashcards

1
Q

method for initial rate experiment

A

add sulphuric acid, starch, water, potassium iodide and sodium thiosulfate to separate burette
measure out required volume of each chemical into conical flask
add hydrogen peroxide to test tube and add to conical flask and start the timer, stirring the mixture
time until the colour change to blue/black
repeat with different concentrations of potassium iodide

Q

method for continuous monitoring method

A

add HCl to conical flask
set up trough of water, filled half way
fill measuring cylinder with water and invert in trough whilst under water, clamp with stand
place delivery tube into measuring cylinder
add magnesium ribbon to conical flask and start stopclock
recored volume of H2 gas in measuring cylinder at regular intervals
repeat using different conc of acid
