Risks in dissections?
-Biohazard- can contaminate and spread unwanted pathogens
-sharp tools- may cut individuals
Reduce risks?
Use disinfectant + wash hands to avoid contamination
Ethical issues?
-morally wrong to kill animals just for dissections- unnecessary
-animals used for dissections may not always be raised in human way- overcrowding, lack of food
-may not be killed humanly and suffer
Important to use sharp tools
Blunt tools don’t cut well, can be dangerous
Safety precaution of carrying out dissections
-ensure dissecting instruments clean & sharp, free from rust
-use cutting board, cut downwards and away from body using scalpel
-wash hands & disinfect work surfaces after carrying out dissections
Label lines be drawn in diagram
-with ruler
-no crossing over label lines
-In pencil

-no shading
-single continuous lines
