Indications for caesarean section
Calf too big
Cow too small
Deformed calf
Twisted uterus unable to correct
Dead/emphysematous calf
Sedative used to prepare cow for C section
0.5ml xylazine IM, then walk away
Drugs used in C section
Local anaesthetic – for anaesthesia of flank and +/- epidural
Broad spectrum abs - Penicillin and Streptomycin ‘Pen and strep’ or Amoxicillin Clavulonic Acid ‘Synulox’ or ……….. – not a sterile surgery so need antibiotic cover
NSAID (Meloxicam ‘Metacam’, Flunixin ‘Finadyne’) – pain relief
Clenbuterol (‘Planipart’) – smooth muscle relaxant so makes it easier to stitch the uterus
Doxapram (‘Dopram’) – respiratory stimulant for the calf
List each of the layers you need to cut through in order to reach the calf in a caesarean?

How to close uterus
Trim placenta
Inverted closure of uterus (2 layers), clamps (pic)

Epididymectomy is a surgical procedure involving the removal of the epididymis, a coiled tube located at the back of the testicle that stores and transports sperm.
Vasectomy- Male vasa deferentia are cut and tied or sealed so as to prevent sperm from entering into the urethra
