-mimics natural hormones but remain constant, rather than fluctuate, FSH and LH suppressed, ovum unable to attach to the uterus
-prevents thickening of endometrium so even if ovulation occurs, the ovum cant attach to the uterus

-educate to take the same time each day to avoid monthly bleeding
-apply patches at recommended interval, 1-2x a week, on abdomen or trunk, press firmly for 10 seconds
