16
Q

at ovulation the 2ry oocyte is released from?

A

released from the Graafian follicle in the ovary

17
Q

the follicle cells that are left behind develop into?

A

a small mass of endocrine tissue called corpus luteum

18
Q

the secondary oocyte has 3 coverings of occyte

A

covered with vitelline membrane which is the cell membrane of the 2ry oocyte
the zona pellucida it is a coat of glycoprotein external to the vitelline membrane and separated from the vitelline membrane by the perivitelline space ( polar bodies )
corona radiata : follicular cells that suuround the 2ry oocyte at ovulation

19
Q

signs of ovulation:

A

mittelschmerz pain :
slight abdominal pain which accompanies ovulation in some women

BBT Basal body temp

Anovulation : cause due to an inadequate release of gonadotropins

result: no release of the 2ry oocyte from the graffian follicle ( cant meet sperm = no pregnancy ) horomonal imbalance

20
Q

luteal phase

A

the ruptured follicle is transformed into corpus luteum which secrets mainly progesterone and a small amount of estrogen

21
Q

how do corpus luteum change to corpus albicans

A

if the 2ry oocyte is not fertilized the corpus luteum persists only 10-14 days then degenrates to form corpus albicans
