Reproductive Anatomy - Escobar Flashcards
Pubic symphosis:
Piece of cartilage that connects bone
Very anterior
Urinary bladder is superior to it.
Ductus deferens location
Anterior / Superior to ureters
Rectovesical pouch:
Between rectum and urinary bladder
Where seminal vesicles are located
Inner urethral sphincter
External urethral sphinter
Inner: controlled by parasympathetics. Where urethra begins. Just before prostate.
External: controlled by somatic nerves
Prostatic utricle:
remnant of female, in seminal colliculus
ejaculatory duct drain in 2 small holes next to this.
bulbourethral glands (cowper’s glands)
at membranous urethra
ducts of glands drain into spongy urethra
release secretion that cleans urine during sexual play, changes pH.
retropubic space:
between pubic symphosis and prostate
bunch of fat
Different zones of prostate
Anterior muscular zone
Transitional zone: more affected in cancer. overgrowth here. this in middle
Central zone: posterior
Peripheral zone: on bottom, most involved in cancer. Rectal examination can check prostate in peripheral zone.
Prostatic sinuses
Next to seminal colliculus, filled with holes where prostate drains.
Venous plexus around prostate connects with internal vertebral venous plexus
This is what is involved in metastasis of prostate cancer, to vertebrae, to brain.
Widened portion at penis tip called:
navicular fossa
Ventral / Dorsal side of penis:
Ventral is closer to scrotum
3 bodies of erectile tissue:
2 paired corpora cavernosa
single corpus spongiosum
crura of penis -> corpus cavernosa
bulb of penis -> corpus spongiosum
Penis made of:
Root -> body -> glans (teeth)
glans only made of corpus spongiosum
