Reproduction in plants Flashcards
What do you mean by vegetative propogation?
The production of new individuals from the vegetative parts of a plant such as roots, stem, leaves and budds.
Give example for Vegetataive propgation by
a) roots
b) stems
c) leaves
a) Sweet Potato, Dahila
b) Rose, champa
c) Bryophyullum
Descibe fragmentation and Budding.
1) Fragmentation- The process in which an organism gets break into two or more fragments and each fragment have the potential to grow into a new organism. Example: Spirogyra
2) Budding is the process in which a bulb like projection devlops on the parent body which eventually detaches from the parent body when it becomes mature anf grows into a new kind.
Example: Yeast
What is pollination?
Pollination is the transfer of pollen grains which contain male gamets (sex cells) from the male part (anthe)r to the female part of a flower (stigma)
Differentaiate between self pollination and cross pollination.
Self Pollination- When the pollen grains from anther lands on the stigma of the same flower or another flower of the same plant. It happen only in bisexual flowers.
Cross pollination- When the pollen grains lands on the stgma of another flower of the same kind it is called cross pollination. It occurs in both self and cross pollinaton.
What is fertilisation?
The union or fusion of the male and female gametes to form a single cell called zygote. In this process the male gamete fertilizes the female gamete.
Fertilized egg is called _________.
zygote
