Reproduction Flashcards
Ovary Diagram (describe)
Fallopian tubes, ova, ovaries, uterus, vagina
Penis Diagram (describe)
Testis, urethra, penis, prostate, scrotum
Gamete Formation (Term + Explanation)
Meiosis, DNA only copied once, but divided into 4 separate cells, daughter cells only have half as many chromosomes (haploid)
Fertilization (Definition)
union or joining of the sprem and egg resulting in a zygote.
Fertilization (Process)
Egg matures in ovary, bursts out of follicle, moves through fallopian tube, is intercepted by sperm, pierces through outer layer, pierces through inner layer, egg shuts down. Genetic material of the 2 combine to form a new cell that starts dividing.
Pregnancy (Process)
It implants itself into wall of uterus. Develops in embryo and placenta (zygote). Mitosis process, keeps dividing.
Placenta
Organ which nourishes and maintains the fetus through the umbilical cord. Provides oxygen and nutrient and removes waste through it.
Female Gamete (flower) functions
Carpel = Stigma (traps the pollen), Style (connects ovary and stigma), Ovary (becomes the fruit), Ovule (protects ovum), Ovum (turns into seed)
Male Gamete (flower)
Stamen = Anther (contains pollen), Filament (holds up anther)
Rest of the Flower Structure
sepals (protects flower bud, ovary), petals (attract insects with visual + scent)
Pollination (what and how?)
The process by which pollen is transferred to the female reproductive organs of a plant, thereby enabling fertilization to take place. Wind water wildlife
Fertilization
pollen deposited on stigma, pollen tubes begin to grow down the style towards the ovary, pollen tubes penetrate ovule, sperm travels down and fertilizes ovum.
Seed Structures (names + functions)
Micropyle (exit for radicle), Testa, Cotyledon (seed leaves), Plummule (shoot real leaves), Radicle (first thing to emerge, sucks up water).
Seed Formation
Testa splits + Radicle emerges, Cotyledon pops out, plumule pops out of c, leaves of plumule pop out.
Dispersal of Fruits
