16
Q

How are sperm cells adapted to their function

A

Haploid nucleus

mitochondria for energy production

flagellum for swimming

17
Q

Where does fertilization occur

A

Oviduct(Where an ovum is present)

18
Q

Explain Fertlisation

A

Fertilization takes place in the oviduct where an haploid sperm and egg nuclei fuse to give a diploid zygote

The zygote divides many times by mitosis as
it travels through the oviduct, on its journey to the uterus, to form a ball of identical cells called
the embryo.

19
Q

What happens in the uterus

A

The embryo attaches to the lining of the uterus(Implantation)

The embryo differentiates into cells of different types and gradually the
foetus develops a variety of tissues and organs over a period of nine months.

20
Q

How is placenta adapted for diffusion

A

by having a
large surface area for exchanging dissolved
nutrients, oxygen, carbon dioxide and urea

21
Q

Explain the role of villi

A

The placenta has villi that increase the surface area for diffusion of
substances between the mother and feotus’s blood.

22
Q

Explain the role of umbilical cord

A

Substances are carried to or from the foetus in the blood vessels in the umbillical cord

23
Q

Where is testosterone produced

A

Testes

24
Q

Where is oestrogen produced?

A

ovaries

25
Q

Reasons for infertility in Women

A

Lack of Ova

Blocked Oviduct

Hostile vagina

26
Q

Reasons for infertility in Men

A

Lack of Sperm Production

Erectile dysfunction

27
Q

What is a mechanical methods of contraception

A

Condom

28
Q

How does a condom work

A

As a barrier to prevent the passage of sperm and spread of sexually transmitted infections

29
Q

What are chemical methods of contraception

A

Contraceptive pills

Chemical Implant

30
Q

How do contraceptive pills and implants work

A

Change hormone levels and stop development of ovum

31
Q

What are surgical ways of contraceptions

A

Male And Female Sterilization

32
Q

How does Male and Female Sterilization Work

A

Prevents the passage of sperm and ova

33
Q

Role of Amnotic Fluid

A

Cushion the foetus
