What is fertilisation
The process where one sperm and one ovum fuse together which happens in the oviduct

What happens during menustration
The blood lining of the uterus is shed
What happens during menstruation and what happens after menstruation
The blood lining of the uterus is shed during menstruation. After menstruation the blood lining thickens again for the rest of the cycle
What happens in the middle of the menstruation cycle (Day 14)
Ovulation occurs (one egg released from one ovary)
- If the egg is fertilised: pregnancy (no period)
- If the egg isn’t fertilised: Cycle starts again
What are the 3 stages of birth and what happens in them
Stage 1: Early labour and active labour (Cervix dilates)
Stage 2: Birth of baby
Stage 3: Delivery of the placenta

Name of the developing child
Cervix function pregnancy
The entrance to the vagina. This dilates when the baby is ready to be born

The part where the baby will come out of
Placenta function
The organ where substances are able to move between mother and foetus
Umbilical cord function
This carries the nutrients, oxygen and waste between the placenta and the foetus
Amniotic fluid function
Liquid that surrounds the baby as it develops, protecting it from harm

It provides the oxygen and nutrients for the baby to grow, and it removes waste products from the baby’s blood
The placenta is an organ that attaches to the wall of the uterus

Puberty is the time when the body begins to develop and change from a childs to an adults
