A representation produced by an individual or small group of people working outside of formal sector institutions.

What is the difference between media places and experinced places?
Experienced places are places we have physically been to and have aquired a physical sense of place to.
Media places are places that have only been represented to us through media. (FORMAL OR IMFORMAL)
What are some benefits of television and film’s representation of a place for that place?
TV and Film can cause people to associate a story with a specific place, and can increase tourism and migration to that place.
This can be positive and negative, with places like Cornwall benefiting from its representation in Poldark, but some urban and derelict areas suffering from representation in crime dramas and horror films.
What are some advantages and disadvantages of formal representation?
Formal representation is often more accurate and factual, show changes over time and has datat that is easier to compare, however the data can omit or gloss over important points to make the area seem better.
What are some advantages and disadvantages of informal representation?
Informal representation can often give a more diverse and detailed overview of an area, but lacks the balance that formal has, and is usually on a smaller scale.
