Replication Flashcards
1
Q
The replication fork is _________.
A
Asymmetric
2
Q
A new DNA strand is synthesized in the ________________ direction.
A
5’—to —-3’
3
Q
Describe enzyme activity of DNA polymerase at the replication fork:
A
- To replicate the lagging strand, it use a backstitching mechanism
- It synthesizes short pieces of DNA (Okazaki fragments) in the 5’ to 3’ direction and then moves back along the template strand (towards the fork) before synthesizing the next fragment.
4
Q
DNA Polymerase is___________.
A
Self Correcting.
-Its so accurate, w/ a low error rate due to the accuracy of complementary base-pairing.
5
Q
RNA primers are synthesized by __________ which uses ___________.
A
- an RNA polymerase called PRIMASE
- a DNA strand as a template
