Step 1 in replacement procedure
Administer additional anesthetic to track of previously removed ITCA
Step 2 in replacement procedure
Grasp handle of placement tool
Bevel of cannula up
Blue actuator button in forward position
Never use placement tool without placement guide
Step 3 in replacement procedure
Rotate placement guide on top of cannula so window is visible
Step 4 in replacement procedure
Depress skin to open incision.
Place cannula flat on abdomen
Pick up edge of incision with tip of cannula
Step 5 in replacement procedure
Advance placement tool forward -
-keeping blue actuator button in forward position
- apply traction as needed to keep skin taut
- follow contour of abdomen and maintain parallel approach
- if resistance, twist tool back and forth while advancing
Step 6 in replacement procedure
Stop advancing when indicator band on cannula reaches incision
Step 7 in replacement procedure
Stabilize placement tool with both hands
Retract blue actuator button
Step 8 in replacement procedure
Withdraw placement tool from incision
Confirm white plunger is visible
- indicates the ITCA was successfully discharged
Step 9 in replacement procedure
Palpate both ends of ITCA to ensure superficial placement
Step 10 in replacement procedure
Apply direct pressure with guaze pads on incision to ensure homeostasis
Step 11 in replacement procedure
Crush capsule of liquid adhesive and apply to both sides of incision
Step 12 in replacement procedure
Oppose edges of incision and close with wound closure strips
Step 13 in replacement procedure
Cover with sterile adhesive bandage parallel to beltline
Step 14 in replacement procedure
Discharge instructions
- incision clean and dry for 24 hrs
- avoid strenuous activity/heavy lifting for 48hrs
- do not touch or manipulate the ITCA - slow healing/ cause expulsion
- allow wound closure strips to fall off naturally
Step 15 in replacement procedure
Discard placement tool and other sharps in sharps container after placement
