Renin Inhibitors (aliskerin) Flashcards
1
Q
MoA
A
- inhibition of renin production –> no RAAS –> decrease in GFR
2
Q
Clinical Uses
A
- HTN
3
Q
Adverse Effects & Contraindications
A
- decreased GFR –> increase in serum creatinine
- **angioedema
- no renin=nothing in RAAS pathway gets formed, including ACE enzyme
- **relatively contraindicated in patients already taking ACE inhibitors
- due to risk of angioedema with ACE inihibitor usage + risk of renal failure from ischemia with BOTH afferent arteriole constriction & efferent arteriole dilation
- hypotension
- hyperkalemia
