A
- prevent binding of angiotensin II to the AT2 receptor in the CCT
- allows for ACE enzyme formation –> bradykinin is able to get inactivated –> no cough or angioedema side effects

Clinical Uses
A
- patients who are intolerant to ACE inhibitor therapy due to chronic cough and/or development of angioedema (same uses otherwise)
- –> diabetic nepropathy & proteinuria
- –> HF
- –> HTN

Adverse Effects
A
- decreased GFR –> increase in serum creatinine levels (same as ACE inhibitor)
- hyperkalemia & hyponatremia
- hypotension
- **teratogen
- causes renal development abnormalities in fetus

Contraindications
A
- **bilateral renal artery stenosis patients
- pregnant women
