A
  1. prevent binding of angiotensin II to the AT2 receptor in the CCT
  2. allows for ACE enzyme formation –> bradykinin is able to get inactivated –> no cough or angioedema side effects

Clinical Uses

A
  1. patients who are intolerant to ACE inhibitor therapy due to chronic cough and/or development of angioedema (same uses otherwise)
    • –> diabetic nepropathy & proteinuria
    • –> HF
    • –> HTN

Adverse Effects

A
  1. decreased GFR –> increase in serum creatinine levels (same as ACE inhibitor)
  2. hyperkalemia & hyponatremia
  3. hypotension
  4. **teratogen
    • causes renal development abnormalities in fetus
