Renewable Energy Flashcards
Renewable energy
Energy which is collected from resources which are not going to run out in human timescale
Wind energy
form of renewable energy where wind turbines convert kinetic energy into mechanical power and eventually electricity
Biofuels
Fuel that comes from a living matter e.g plant source
solar energy
the suns energy exploited by solar panels, collectors or cells to heat, water or air or to generate electricity
Solar Power
parabolic troughs: Heats liquid to above 400 degrees which is used to turn water into steam which drives the turbine to create electricity
Photovoltaic cells convert suns energy directly into electricity
Benefits of solar power
πNon polluting technology that doesnβt produce noise or greenhouse gases. Causes some pollution but less than burning fossil fuels
π Once established sonar panels are cheap to run and maintain
π Increases fuel security in countries with adequate sun light
Disadvantages of solar panels
π Electricity cannot be created when there is no sunlight
π Even more efficient photovoltaic cells convert only 20% of suns energy to electricity
