MAIN TYPES OF RENEWABLE ENERGY
SOLAR ENERGY WIND ENERGY HYDROPOWER BIOFUELS GEOTHERMAL ENERGY
___ is energy from the sun that is converted into thermal or electricalenergy.
Solar energy
This energy is harnessed with wind turbines. They are usually grouped in with farms. Also called as wind parks
Wind energy
Also called as hydraulic or water power, derived from the force of moving water. Since water is much denser that air, its movement generates more energy that wind does.
Hydropower
Made from oils that undergo chemical processing. Used edible vegetable oil is sometimes transformed into biodiesel too.
Biomass and Biofuel
Obtained by tapping the heat of the earth, which mostly in the form of hot water and steam.
Geothermal Energy
Pros of renewable energy
Renewable energy cannot run out because it is produced by nature
The use of domestic power generators reduces the strain on power distribution system.
Green electricity is becoming increasingly accessible to the average customer
Renewables are generally not hazardous to the environment
Republic Act No. 9513
Renewable Energy Act of 2008
is a policy which places an obligation on electric power industry participants such as generators, distribution utilities, or suppliers to source or produce a specified fraction of their electricity from eligible RE Resources, as may be determined by NREB.
Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS)
a consumer-based renewable energy incentive scheme wherein electric power generated by an end-user from an eligible on-site RE generating facility and delivered to the local distribution grid may be used to offset electric energy provided by the DU to the end-user during the applicable period.
