Renewable and Non Renweable Energy Flashcards
What is renweable energy?
Renewable energy is produced using natural resources that are constantly replaced and never run out.
What is non renweable energy?
Non-renewable energy comes from sources that will run out or will not be replenished for thousand, maybe millions of years.
What is Solar Power?
When the sun is shining on the solar panels, a chemical reaction happens which converts light into electricity.
What is wind power?
Wind turns the propeller like blades of a turbine around a roter, which spins a generater, which creates electricity.
What is Tidal power?
The ride moves in and out twice a day and this forwards and backwards movement causes turbines in the water to spin and create electricity.
What is wave power?
Small rafts move up and down on waves while pulling a cable below. This cable is attched to magnets which move up and down to create electricity.
What is geothermal power?
Cold water is pumped down pipes to hot rocks. The water returns up another pipe as steam and spins a turbine which drives a generater.
What is Biomass?
Biomass fuel comes fom living things. Thses things are burned, to heat water, the steam that comes from the water spins a turbine, which drives a generater.
What is hydroelectric power?
Hydroelectricity is produced by passing water, usually from a resovoir or dam. The passing water spins a turbine, which drives a generater.
