Q

How does solar energy work

A

When the sun shines onto a solar panel, energy from the sunlight is absorbed by the cells in the panel. This energy creates electrical charges that make electricity

Q

How does wind energy work

A

Wind turns the propeller like blades of a turbine around a rotor, which spins a generator, which creates electricity.

Q

How does geothermal energy work

A

cold water is pumped underground, hits the hot rocks and is pumped back up to the surface where it’s turned to steam, the steam spins the turbine which is connected to a generator that produces electricity

Q

How does nuclear power work

A

water in the core is heated then pumped into tubes inside a heat exchanger, those tubes heat a separate water source to create steam, the core water cycles back to the reactor to be reheated

Q

How does hydroelectric power work

A

Hydroelectric dams trap water. Allowing it to fall rotates a turbine, which turns a generator.

Q

How does tidal power work

A

Turbines inside the barrage enable the basin to fill during incoming tides and release through the system during outgoing tides, generating electricity in both directions.

Q

How does wave power work

A

converters capture the energy contained in ocean waves and use it to generate electricity

17
Q

How does biofuel work

A

When biofuels are burned, they release energy. That energy source is then converted into motion or heat
